This exciting workshop will bring together several methods to create beautiful, layered artworks that can be both a photograph and a painting. Send us an image that we will print on tissue paper for you to use in the workshop. We’ll explore color mixing to give you "Color Knowledge as Color Power" while developing imagery with a focus on using photographs as collage. This process involves printing photographs on lightweight tissue paper and embedding the images in the encaustic medium. We’ll also explore image transfers and simple methods to edit your images to combine with wax. Layers can be created by using oil sticks and paint to add pigment above or below the photographs for color and depth. There will be a lot of one-on-one feedback and support to help you create a finished work, gain confidence, and expand your voice with encaustic.
Image specs: High contrast with open or light areas to add color and/or texture. We recommend a black and white image since you can add the color and create more of a painting versus just adding a layer of wax. Please choose a photo you took yourself and are excited about making into a painting.
